Montgomery County, Maryland – Named After General Richard Montgomery During The Revolutionary War

Richard Montgomery was an Irish soldier who served in Britain’s army while living in the American colonies. During the Revolutionary War, Richard Montgomery pledged allegiance to the rebel cause and served as a general under General George Washington’s army. From December 8th to December 31st, General Montgomery faught in the Battle of Quebec and died at the last day of the battle.

Montgomery County, Maryland was founded during the Revolutionary War, in 1776, and the county was named after General Richard Montgomery.
