December 12th to 13th, 2022 – The General Ambrose Powell Hill Junior Monument Is Removed From Richmond City

On December 12th, 2022, a month after Judge Cheek ordered that the General Ambrose Powell Hill, Junior monument be sent to the Richmond Black History Musuem, the City of Richmond sent a crew to remove the statue and pedestal. Work ended at 4:00PM and on December 13th the crew will work to remove the base of the pedestal and the grave of the former general.

April 2nd, 1865 – General Ambrose Powell Hill, Junior Was Mortally Wounded As The Siege Of Petersburg Ended

On April 2nd, 1865, General Ambrose Powell Hill, Junior was mortally wounded as the Army of Northern Virginia was retreating from one of the sites, where the months long “Siege of Petersburg” ended, after the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Five Forks.

The Pamplin Historical Park, and the National Museum of the Civil War Soldier, are both next to the site where the Virginia Conservation and Development Commission placed a historical marker, a few yards from the place where General Ambrose Powell Hill, Junior was shot by Union soldiers, in the year 1929.
