In 1946, Pioneertown, California was established in the Morongo Basin region of San Bernardino County’s High Desert, by Hollywood movie producers seeking to create several “Westerners”. The town was incorporated and the town was used as a film set for various films.
However, in the 1960s, shortly after incorporation, the town was no longer incorporated and fell under the jurisdiction of the San Bernandino County. The town is used for Hollywood sets in present day.
