
In 1855, the Herring Box School was erected in the town of Mayfield, California.

The town of Mayfield was eventually integrated into the city of Palto Alto. The school was torn down and presently two historical markers, next to the Northern Santa Clara County Courthouse, indicate the site of the former school.
