William Henry Spurgeon, Senior

The “Old Orange County Courthouse” In Southern California

In 1901, various locations in Santa Ana were considered for a courthouse and it was ultimately decided that the structure should be built within the proximity of the home of the founder of Santa Ana, William Henry Spurgeon, Senior. That same year the grand Old Orange County Courthouse was constructed with sandstone in Santa Ana, California.

After the completion of the courthouse a celebration was held.

Like the courthouse of Fort Worth, Texas, where the series Walker Texas Ranger was filmed, the facility was utilized for various Hollywood films.

A historical marker in front of the building indicates the whipstock drilling case.

Presently, the courthouse is the oldest courthouse in continuous use in Southern, California.
