
Truckee’s 601 Vigilance Committee was established to instill law and order in the railroad town during the “Gold Rush” era. Other cities affected by the rise in rampant capital crimes, such as San Francisco, establishes their own vigilante committees. Some of the committees worked with their town and city governments whereas others did not.
