In 1878, William and Eveline McClellan purchased a ranch, from Stephens a California pioneer who was among the first to successfully cross the Sierra Nevadas, within the rural Monta Vista neighborhood of Cupertino, California.

About a hundred years after the ranch was built, in 1976, the city Cupertino established the McClellan Ranch Park which consists of buildings that the McClellan family used to own and a replica of a blacksmith shop.
