1881 – The Donner-Houghton House Was Constructed

In 1881, the Donner-Houghton House was built and a member of the Donner Party resided in the home.

During their travels west, the Donner Party faced a severe trial if starvation, where members of the group engaged in cannibalism, by eating the deceased members of the group, due to lack of food during the winter.
