1837 – Houston Designated As The Capital Of Texas

On December 15, 1836, Governor San Houston ordered that the capital of the Republic of Texas be moved from Columbia to Houston, the city that was named after him. From April 19, 1837 to 1839, Houston served as the capital of Texas.
