The Founding Of Birmingham, Alabama

In 1871, Birmingham, Alabama was founded at the crossing of two rail lines near one of the world’s richest deposits of minerals. The city was named for Birmingham, England, the center of that country’s iron industry. Presently, Birmingham is the youngest large city in the state of Alabama.
