The Battle Of Mobile Bay

On August 5, 1864, the Battle of Mobile Bay occurred along Fort Gaines and Fort Morgan during the U.S. Civil War.

Union Rear Admiral David Glasgow Farragut led ships to fight against Confederate Admiral Franklin Buchanan’s fleet. During the Battle, Rear Admiral David Glasgow Farragut shouted the order, “Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!” Real Admiral Farragut’s forces faced fierce resistance from Admiral Buchanan’s fleet.

Currently, there are various Battle of Mobile Bay Civil War sites that one can see throughout the Mobile Bay.
