On November 15, 1869, a mere four years after the end of the U.S. Civil War, the Ladies Memorial Association of King George County dedicates a Confederate Monument in front of the county courthouse. The Ladies Memorial Association monument was the first courthouse monument in the state of Virginia to be dedicated to the Confederacy.
