
On December 28, 1862, Major General J.E.B. Stuart sent twelve men to burn a trestle along the Orange and Alexandria Railroad that was near the Union occupied town of Alexandria. This action raised concerns that the Confederate Army would move to strike against Union occupying soldiers.
