
The area of Farmwell, Virginia, also known as Old Farmwell and Farmwell Station, was settled in the 1700s. In 1870, the area because known as Ashburn Village, after the Ashburn Farm.

Around 1895, former Nevada Senator William Morris Stewart moved to the area and purchased the Ashburn Farm. Presently, the city is simply known as Ashburn.
