The U.S. Navy’s First Nuclear Cruise Missile

In 1943, the U.S. Navy began the project to develop the TDR-1, which was the first cruise missile developed by American forces. The post World War II Regulus program was used to develop nuclear cruise missiles for American forces.

During the Cold War, the USS Halibut was the first submarine in the world to launch nuclear cruise missiles.
