The Carnegie Library for Local History was built in 1906 and was he first library to be established in Boulder.
Presently, the library serves as an archieve and research center for local history.
When I visited the library, it was a few days after John Sidney McCain III, a Vietnam War veteran and U.S. Senator, had passed away. The library had their flag at half staff in McCain’s honor. I have read John McCain’s book “Flags of Our Father’s” which detailed his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. The kindness McCain received from a Christian military guard, who drew a cross on the ground before unshackling him from chains that were lifting his arms and his body above ground, was indeed profound.
