The Establishment Of Camp Collins

After President Abraham Lincoln signed the first Homestead act into law in 1862, there was a greater need to establish military forts and camps to protect settlers from Indian attacks. In 1864, Camp Collins was established by the U.S. Army as one of many sites to protect settlers entering Colorado.
