The National Weather Service Radar Operations Center has multiple Doppler radar stations in Norman, Oklahoma for enhanced weather imagery.
My father Said Hamilton in the 1980s worked at the severe weather center in Norman as an engineer. Said was part of a team that reduced the Doppler Radar range of detecting tornadoes from 25 miles to 5 miles.
Said Hamilton’s work at improving the Doppler Radar system’s accuracy of tornado detection gave him credentials to work for NASA in 1991. While at NASA he inspected components of the Space Shuttle, before it was decommissioned in 2010 under President George Walker Bush’s administration, and the international space station. My father retired from NASA on July 30, 2018 after working for the space agency for over 25 years.
