Fort Funston – The Former Site Of The Nike Missies During the Cold War

Fort Funston was named after Colonel Frederick Funston, who had revived a Medal of Honor for his actions in the Philippines during the Spanish American War.

During the Cold War the fort was the site of the ballistic Nike Nuclear Missiles During the Cold War.

In present day, the former fort serves as a beachside park in San Francisco.
